Thanks to donors like you, the Ryan Gray Memorial Fund has partnered with STAR Alaska (staralaska.org) to create a booklet and companion guide designed to educate parents, teachers, and other significant adults in a child's life about understanding of male survivors of sexual abuse, recognizing the signs of abuse, prevention strategies, personal body safety, responding to a child's disclosures, why there may be a delay in reporting abuse, and ending the stigma, as well as how STAR can help.
We created a first run of 5,000 copies of this booklet and guide which are being distributed within Alaska through a network of STAR and other organizations working to eliminate sexual abuse in Alaska. Some of these organizations include: Alaska CARES, AWAIC, Fairbanks Interior Alaska Center for non-violent living, South Central Foundation, Anchorage School District, therapists operating in this space, and many others.
Some feedback we've received on this booklet:
“This valuable resource from STAR offers insight into the unique ways boys may express or conceal the effects of sexual abuse. It offers clear and direct trauma-informed information for caregivers, teachers, and anyone working with children."
Audra York, M.S., LPC-S, RPT-S
"Protecting and Empowering Boys is a valuable resource that promotes awareness and prevention strategies to safeguard children. This booklet offers practical guidance for families and professionals dedicated to creating a safer environment for children. "
